Money & Banks
The national currency is the Egyptian Pound (EGP / LE). 1 LE is made up of 100 piasters and is equal to approximately 0.10 Euros.
The diving centres and hotels accept most international currencies as well as Visa and MasterCard (3% surcharge will be added to your bill) as do most places throughout Naama Bay and Sharm el Sheikh. ATM machines are everywhere and travellers’ cheques can be cashed at banks.
Opening hours for the Egyptian banks is usually Monday to Thursday 8.30 to 14.00 and then 18.00 to 21.00. For guests arriving into the country the banks at Cairo Airport and at the border with Israel are open 24 hours a day and banks at the ports open whenever a ship docks.
